Delayed farewell

Well, it has been almost a month since a took these pictures. And because comets are not waiting for anybody, the photographs above kind of became yesterday’s news. But I think it would be shame not to share them anyways. I am sure you know I am talking about recent rendezvous between Earth and Neowise comet. There is not much new I can tell you about it, except its awesome visibility is long gone. But it is never late to say proper good bye, I guess.

Conditions were not excellent that night. Humidity was high which caused some water condensation on my lens (which is always a pain) and there was considerable amount of clouds, which really narrowed my window to take the pictures. Luckily I was able to take a few. And since I was in an area with a really nice dark sky, why not to photograph the Milky way as well. That is always a nice treat. The two brightest “stars” on the picture are actually Saturn (the smaller left one) and Jupiter (the big one on the right).

Talking about the locations, I should mention that Boletice military training area provides quite nice conditions for astrophotography. Even though nobody can enter it without permission, you can be at least sure that it is a large area with pretty much no artificial light. So whenever I plan to shoot something on the night sky, I just try to put this area between me and my objective. This means that when I want to photograph something positioned on the southern part of the sky, I shoot it from some location on the northern border of the area. And you might already guess it: that also works the other way around.
