Around Nové Hrady

If you have read some of my earlier posts on this website, you might have probably gotten a hunch, that I have a bit of a weak spot for Gratzen Mountains. Even though the word mountains is a bit overkill in this case (they are more like taller hills or so) the area is simply a beautiful piece of nature, which is luckily still kind of away of the touristic spree. You can find them on the Czech - Austrian border around the town of Nové Hrady with quite a charming medieval castle (see the picture above - I know it is not a nature photograph, but just so you know what I am talking about).

These pictures as the ones before still come from our vacation back in June when me and my wife rented a small cottage there. Btw. the pictures of hares were shot from the window of our bedroom. That is how nature and people can be connected there. The pictures were taken shortly after sunset, so the light is not perfect, but it works fine. I especially like the one where the hare looks like he lost his keys somewhere in the pile of sand (I have honestly no idea what he was digging for). The sunset photos also come from the cottage’s close vicinity.

Like most of the area in South Bohemia Region the Gratzen Mountains are also a place of many small and bigger ponds (as you can clearly see on the map below). I especially recommend to visit the smaller ones like Přesličkový pond or Veverský pond which lie along the marked nature trail. When it comes the first of the two I chose to go with square format picture. The reason was that I really wanted to simplify the composition and eliminate disturbing elements (like other leaves and branches on the surface). Making it nice and clean. This kind of format seems to be great for that. I chose a similar approach with the picture of a daisy. Thanks to 5:4 format I was able to crop out everything not necessary for the scene.
